  Over the past year, there have been many heated debates over the readiness or otherwise of OSGi for enterprise applications. OSGi is a proven and tested technology, so in that sense it's been "ready" for a long time. What has been missing are specifications and implementations of tools and frameworks that are required for Java EE programmers to properly utilise OSGi enterprise features. The recent release of the OSGi Service Platform Enterprise Specification (4.2) and the announcement of the IBM WebSphere Application Server V7 Feature Pack for OSGi Applications and Java Persistence API (JPA) 2.0 changes this.
